The Medicine Hat College and Praxis are proud to offer week long educational summer day camps. Join us in July and August 2011 as we choose our own adventure and experience a new kind of summer fun! The Land Before Time

Ages 5 & 6. Our journey will take us to the land of the dinosaur! Travel back through time making big dinosaur prints, excavating a mini bone
bed and examine real fossils while we explore the world of the Tyrannosaurus Rex. Dance to "rock" music and make great dino crafts whilelearning more about friendship and fun.

It's a Bug's Life

Ages 6-8. Come explore the wonderful world of bugs by looking closer…a lot closer…at the fascinating creatures they all are. Our closer look begins with microscopes and various tools to bring them and their world into perspective. Make edible spiders (yummy), be a Queen ant and supervise the colonies, and play Bug-Go Bingo…a week of bugthemed activities, crafts and games.

Scien'TWISTS

Ages 6-8. Are you ready to explore the wacky world of science? In this exciting camp you will perform lots of experiments each day. You will go bug hunting, collect interesting pond specimens and even make your own erupting volcano. This camp is all about science but with a big twist
of fun!

Blast Off

Ages 7+. Get ready to blast off in this camp as you delve into the mysteries of space-time, gravity, distance and life beyond earth's boundaries.
You will discover the solar system using telescopes and computers, build rockets, eat astronaut food-even design an aquatic biosphere for your own alien.

Spa Science

Ages 8+. Take real science to the bathtub and beyond. Whip your bath into a frothy fizzing sea of colour and fragrance. Get ready to get dirty and experiment with real chemistry. Learn how to make Soothing Bath Salts, Bath Bombs, Soap, Perfume and so much more. Even better, bring your creations home to enjoy. **Note: Those with dermatological allergies should not attend this camp as the participants will be making and testing all of their experiments.

Can You Dig It?

Ages 7+. This July we are offering our first ever gardening camp for kids!
Join us for a hands-on fun filled week as we explore the plant world. Go on a nature hike, play games and learn about soils, seeds, plants and flowers! Create your own compost with worms and dirt, and a vegetable garden to grow your very own super veggies. Take your compost and veggie garden home-and watch them grow! Get out of the house and into the garden!

Camp CSI

Ages 9+. Experience a day in the life of a drug-testing lab technician. Campers become lab techs to discover how science catches cheaters. Outfitted in your lab coat you will also learn how doctors diagnose and treat some sport related injuries including matching x-rays to atients, arm casting and ankle taping. But wait-there's been a murder in the athlete's village and it's up to you to ID the suspect using forensic science including bite impressions, finger printing and DNA extractions.

Gross Out Science

Ages 8+. If you like ooey gooey, slippery, slimy, smell bad, look disgusting,
bacteria growing kind of science that makes people scream with delight, then this is the camp for you. Only certified kid grossologists will be able to handle the adventures contained here. Come prepared to get messy and discover a whole new level of "YUCK"!

Robotics Mindstorm

Ages 8-11. Enter the robot laboratory where you will design, build, and move your own machines using LEGO Mindstorm robotic kits and Robolab software. Learn about the principles of programming and mechanics as you decide what kind of robot you want to build and then bring it to
life-create it, then control it!

Robotics NXT Generation

Ages 10-12. Come back to the robot laboratory for some more fun! Design, build and move your Robot using the new Lego Mindstorm NXT Generation robotic kits and software. Take it to the next level and create an extreme Robot with new and improved sensors. **Note: To be a part of Robotics NXT Generation you had to have completed either Robotics Mindstorm or Praxis Roboclub previously

Mindblowing Science

Ages 10+. Are you ready to mix up some wild wacky science test tube adventures? Each day you will uncover some "science secrets" by doing your own experiments. By the end of the week you will be able to WOW your friends and family with cool xperiments at home. There will be eruptions, "fizzing" powders, slime, and much, much more as you discover the wonders of science in a test tube! You will have to see it to believe it! Now you hold the answers to all the science secrets. Share if you dare!!

Spy Science

Ages 10+. No adults allowed! Aspiring Spy Kids will hone their tradecraft. Learn from real "spies", and hit the streets to run training missions. There will be an opportunity to develop a disguise for cover, make and break codes, create and use spy gadgets, use specialized equipment in their outdoor training mission and of course, uncover the science behind spying.
